Langrish, St John the Evangelist

The Parish Church, a Grade II Victorian building, designed by Ewan Christian, lies on the south side of the A272 at the western end of the village. It is a simple building, with nave, north aisle and chancel, and contains some interesting Victorian stained glass and monuments to local people.

The church is open for private prayer during daylight hours, and is accessible to a wheel-chair user. Wheelchair users wishing to visit the church may find it more convenient to park at the village green (on the East Meon road) and use the footpath to the church (about 100 metres).

Sunday worship takes place on the following days in the month

1st Sunday            9.00 a.m. Parish Eucharist (Order One)

2nd Sunday            9.00 a.m. Parish Eucharist (Order One)

3rd Sunday            10.45 a.m. Family Service

4th Sunday            9.00 a.m. Parish Eucharist (Order One)

Times of 5th Sunday services vary, but are posted on the board at the lych-gate.

There is a short service of prayer every Friday at 9.30 a.m.

Enquiries about baptisms, banns of marriage and weddings should me made to the Vicar, Canon Terry Louden, at The Vicarage, East Meon 01730 823221

The church is supported by the ‘Friends of St. John’s’, a group of local people who meet for social and community interests.

The church and its small regular congregation wish to serve the village community. Members of other Christian traditions are welcome at Sunday worship. There is a long-term plan to adapt part of the interior of the building to form a meeting-room, with toilet and kitchenette.

The church is linked with the Good Shepherd Anglican Church, Jameso Nkwanta, in the Diocese of Cape Coast, in Ghana.

Langrish has a village website: www.squeaker.org.uk. Church information is published on the website.

Those of you who
take the road,
the scenic road,
from Petersfield to Winchester,
will know it best.
St John's stands by the sweeping bend,
the right-hand bend,
that takes you up
to higher ground
when driving west.
